The Perfect Escape

Kia Orana from the Cooks Islands to you!

The Cook Islands are located half way between Hawaii and New Zealand in the heart of the Pacific. There are 15 islands in the group and most visited are Rarotonga and Aitutaki.

The Islands offer an oasis of crystal blue waters, white sandy beaches, temperate weather throughout the year and a myriad of activities and tours.

The moment you disembark from the plane at Rarotonga the locals are there to greet you with a warm smile and a beautiful lea. Everyone is friendly and happy to help and in no time at all you are relaxing in your luxury beachfront resort right on the magnificent Muri Beach lagoon.

The best way to see the Island is on the Cook Islands Orientation Tour. You can learn about the history, see the sights and visit some interesting attractions and local manufacturers. Your guide from Cook Island Tours goes out of his way to answer all your questions and is proud of the heritage and culture of the islands.

Every day there is something to see and do and it is all so interesting…..

Captain Tama’s Lagoon Cruise on board the Glass Bottom Boat is a great way to see the spectacular coral and fish that abound the lagoon.  Watch the fastest coconut climber in the Pacific climb a coconut tree, bring it down, husk it and then grate it to make coconut milk.  It is hilarious and accompanied by a taste tempting BBQ lunch with local reef fish and salads.

The Local School Visit gives you a great insight into how important education is on the island and how culture is such a big part of the children’s learning.

Watching how Ukuleles are made in the local prison workshop is an incredibly unique experience and exclusive to Trade Travel.

Visiting the Saturday Markets is a wonderful opportunity to chat with the locals and see all their arts and crafts plus the beautiful black pearls that are iconic in the islands.

Take a moment to listen to the Black Pearl Talk, this gives you an insight into how they are farmed, why they are different colours and shapes, in fact everything you always wanted to know about the industry.

Joining in on the Sunday Church Service in the beautiful white coral and limestone churches is very engaging.  Each church is filled with the soaring songs of worship in their congregations and is something not to be missed.

Night time activities are also available and a great night out is the Progressive Dinner, visit local homes and sample the cuisine.  You will enjoy being entertained by talented locals and the food is outstanding with quality assured.

The Island Nights are also a must do and very informative providing a Village Tour prior to the show explaining how their forefathers lived and then an amazing show with the Island dancers.

Of course this is just a snap shot of options and any special interest or sporting groups will not be disappointed.  Bowls Groups, Golf Groups, Gardening Groups, Walking Groups are all offered specialised itinerary’s and are welcomed into the local clubs and competitions so you can see the sights and include additional options.

Cook Islands also has wonderful festivals throughout the year and most noted of course is the Te Maeva Nui Festival that celebrates the diversity of island culture with captivating traditional singing and dancing.

Performing artists from Rarotonga and the outer Islands gather at the National Auditorium to present new dances, songs, drum beats and costumes expressing the cultural theme chosen for that particular year.

New this year is the Ukulele Festival called Golden Ukarere Festival, people will gather from all over the world for this Festival and they have an exciting program for everyone to enjoy.

The Cook Islands destination is so special and everyone that visits Rarotonga and Aitukaki raves about the same things, beautiful resorts, pristine waters, warm and friendly locals and the quality of all the attractions and shows.

Everything is on Cook Islands time and it won’t take long for you to slip into that mode and just relax and unwind.

Enjoy paradise at its best and join our fully escorted Best of the Cook Islands ‘Te Maeva Nui Festival’ tour departing 28 July 2018 or ask about other departures.
